The Thien Phuoc Centre for Children with Disability cannot be built soon enough. Even though Vietnam has recently achieved significant economic development, opportunities for children with disability remain poor.

The current situation of many Children with Disability in Vietnam includes: poverty-level living conditions, low literacy and education levels, very limited vocational training and employment opportunities, limited access to rehabilitative services (and rehabilitative aids and devices), and lack of adequate social integration in the community.' • There are about 1,000,000 children with disability living in Vietnam today
  • Half of all reported disabilities in children are classified as severe
  • For an estimated 60,000 disabled children living in HCMC there are only 3 specialist rehabilitation centres serving their needs
  • Only around a quarter of children with disability receive any formal schooling
  • Less than 3% get any vocational or further educational training
  • Over 90% of children with disability reach adulthood with no long term employment opportunity

Vietnam's recent history adds an additional burden to an already extensive problem. While the link between specific disabilities and exposure to toxic agents of war cannot be quantified, Vietnam does experience an unusually high rate of disability. Furthermore, there exists a high incidence of multiple disabilities causing severe detriment to quality of life.

In partnership with Thien Phuoc you can help address this chronic lack of opportunity for children with disability in Vietnam
